Shameless begging for recs below!!

Day 10: A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving

IDK, if you start watching a show, don't you think you might like it?? I generally don't watch shows unless there's at least some element that makes me believe it'll be worth it.

The only thing that comes to mind is Ashes to Ashes but I talked about that already! I thought it would never live up to LoM but I'm loving it.

That was a terribly uninteresting answer :/ Sorry!

I also have a fic rec request! This is probably a long shot bt whatever, I'll try. I know that a lot of people, no matter what fandom they're in now, have a history in Harry Potter fandom.
I'm looking for any fic of epic length that you can recommend. I have this whole pile of books on my shelf that I'm going to read when I HAVE MY LIFE BACK in a few months, and I also want some fic to look forward to.
Last year, I read the Promises Unbroken Universe, and I loved it so very very much! I really feel like just disappearing into that universe for a few days.

So if anyone would happen to know a good Harry Potter fic of considerable length and epicness, link me up! Don't worry about the pairings, if it's not my thing I'll skip it. There are just too many ships to explain which ones I like. I'd prefer it if the focus is on plot rather than romance though.

ETA: it occurred to me to give my own rec :) up there I mentioned the Unbroken Universe. Link goes to Robin4's ff page. In short, its a massive AU where Sirius was the Secret Keeper, James and Lily don't die and the war goes on for over a decade after. No focus on any ship (well, some James/Lily and Sirius/OFC but it's really not a romance fic). It's quite dark, but so is canon. Really long but really good, if anyone feels like wasting a few days on it :P

Hrm. I pointedly avoid any story more than two chapters, so I can't help you out. But I know tons and tons of one-shots that are great, if you're interested!

Sure, rec me up! I'm feeling like epicness at the moment, but good one-shots are always appreciated! XD And not as time-consuming.

Haha, ok. This  (http://unknowableroom.org/profile/johnmayergirl23/favorites) is my favorites list from UR.org, and all of those are wonderful, especially Smoke and Mirrors, which is pretty much my favorite HP fic.

And this one: (http://community.livejournal.com/femgenficathon/53437.html) is so, so so good!

:DD Thank you. I might even get to those the next few days in between the studying...

The only HP fic I read is the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project. I don't know how well known it is, but if you haven't heard of it, it's an epic Remus/Sirius (with James, Lily, and Peter) pre-books fic by ladyjaida and dorkorific. They haven't posted a new chapter in at least a year, but the existing twenty-some chapters are well worth the read. Honestly, I like Shoebox much more than I like the actual HP, but then I was never much of a fangirl for the books anyway. Er, but their comm was hacked ages ago and now the actual chapters are here (http://www.lomara.org/sbp/).

I've read shoebox! Remus/Sirius is my OTP, so I was bound to hear about it :)
To be perfectly honest, I never adored it quite as much as most people seem to. I mean, I like it but there are some things about it that make it less than perfect to me.

But actually, I might read it again. Maybe I'll like it better on a second time? I always felt like I was missing something :/

I have a rec, but it won't be worth it if you don't like Remus/Tonks. I personally ship Remus with both her and Sirius, so I know it's possible, but I'll totally understand if it's not your thing.

[identity profile] muneca-brava.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm totally open to Remus/Tonks. I've hardly read anything with that ship and I have to admit I don't like how it's handled in the books, but if it's good fanfic I can go with it!

It's actually handled *around* the books-- showing Remus's life in OotP and then HBP for the sequel! It's epic AND canon-compliant AND makes the relationship more believable.

Or, at least it does in my memory. I haven't actually read it in years, so ymmv, but I loved it at the time.

Sounds great! I would love it if I could link it to the books so the whole relationship is more natural. I'll check it out in a few weeks :)

Err.... the only thing I can think of is The Marriage Stone. I absolutely love it because it has this awesome world-building around the Harry Potter verse with political intrige, a complicated law system and so much character building and refinement that it BLEW MY MIND! But the pairing is Snape/Harry, and I don't think that's your particular cup of tea...

[identity profile] swift-tales.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
FYI, it's also Remus/Sirius

[identity profile] muneca-brava.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for - if it weren't for the pairing. I'm afraid no amount of good plot and background R/S can make me read Snape/Harry.
But thanks for suggesting something! XD
