Exam period starting means a lot more posts! :P
Comment with any ship (romantic or platonic or maybe even non-existent!) from a fandom that you know I have some knowledge about, and I will rant about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on your ship of choice.
(doesn't have to be a ship I actually ship!)

And I think that sense of home is the strongest with Mal. He clearly lost a lot in the war, most of all his faith and his optimism, and I don't believe he could have kept going if he hadn't stumbled on Serenity. Of course, it's all about that moment in Out of Gas when he first sees her. The look of True Love. And along the way, the ship got filled with all these unexpected people he may not really want there at first (with the exception of Zoe), but it becomes home.
But I also think that no matter what happens to the rest of the crew, no matter how much it will hurt him when they die or leave, he'll be reasonably okay as long as he has Serenity.
We never really see Mal as soft, and - I'll say it - serene, as when he is 'interacting' with his ship. She is what keeps him going. And I love that Serenity is really another character in the show, and how much care has gone into the design, because it is SO important that it feels like a home, not a means of transportation.
So yeah, in many ways Mal/Serenity is like Doctor/Tardis for me. It is the ultimate OTP of the show, and overshadows all the ship wars between various characters because long after everyone else is gone, it will be the captain and his ship. That's not to say I don't also ship Mal/Inara and Mal/Saffron! :) But I have many feelings that I never really articulated on Mal/Serenity, clearly! :D
