Just a PSA for literally everyone who hasn't watched Fleabag yet: GO WATCH FLEABAG, NOW. It's not that long. You have time. There is no excuse. If you think you won't like it, you are wrong because it's perfect. Thank you.

(just finished S2. don't know what to do with myself. it's the best thing I've seen in years, I think. It's flawless. The complicated women, the friendships, the hot priest who is only so hot because he's written by women for women, the fourth wall breaking that has made it impossible for other shows to break the fourth wall ever again. Also how hilarious it is, and how desperately sad at the same time. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a genius).

I wholly second this rec! Season 1 is excellent. Season 2 is genuinely flawless.

Yes!

And why does it always seem to be UK shows which are great at balancing on that same point between hilarious & heart-breaking? I haven't finished watching Catastrophe yet (still on season 3) but it hits that exact same spot for me as well. I've laughed until I cried & cried until I laughed during the same episode.

I might be talking rubbish here but I always have the sense that UK shows are a little bit more willing to be gritty/grubby/messy compared to US shows which tend to have that glossier/more polished feel. Fleabag really dives into the dark emotional depths of its lead character. Maybe that's what gives it such a great range between hilarious and heartbreaking. It's such great black comedy.
