2022 year in fandom
Saw this one going around, thought it might be fun.
1. Your main fandom of the year?
BTS. Last year and the year before, I was very much in that first obessive fase of fandom where I was constantly thinking about it, but this year it was much more manageable. BTS themselves slowed down this year as well, so it was easy to just kind of dip in and out. I mostly hang around on reddit, where most people are sane, and read fic. I go on twitter and tumblr for updates and translations but I stay away from the fandom there mostly.
2. Your favorite film you watched this year?
Probably Everything Everywhere All at Once . I also really liked Glass Onion, Decision to Leave, Sound of Metal, Elvis, and Licorice Pizza
3. Your favorite book read this year?
There are two books I gave 5 stars on Goodreads this year: Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin and How to be Perfect by Mike Schur (nonfiction). But the one I enjoyed the most was probably The Watchmaker of Filigree Street.
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Stars put out a new album, their first in years - Capelton Hill. I loved it.
RM's album Indigo came out in december so I have to sit with it for a while to know how it will hold up, but I really like it and I think I can already say that Wild Flower will be one of my all-time favorite songs (which I can't even say for any BTS songs). He's just really great.
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
I very, very slowly watched the last few seasons of Better Call Saul this year and finally finished the show in the first few days of 2023, so I'm counting it as a 2022 show. Absolute masterpiece. The finale is in my top three finales ever.
Severance was also very good!
6. Your favorite podcast of the year?
I don't think I listened to any new ones that particularly stood out. My favorite podcast has been the same for years; The Empire film podcast. It's the only one that I always listen to as soon as an episode comes out.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Not much, the only thing I can think of is that I branched out my fic reading for the first time; I'm usually pretty loyal to one ship in a fandom but since rpf is different and it's more about the quality of the stories than about any shippy feelings, I started reading any and all good BTS fic I could find regardless of ship, and it's pretty fun!
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
A lot has happened since, but the way the BTS album was announced *as an album* and then weeks later it turned out to be an anthology was pretty shitty. For one of the biggest entertainment companies, Hybe really sucks at communication (see also the hiatus/disbandment/new chapter confusion).
9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
I have very intense and embarrassing feelings about Kim Namjoon.
9. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Not really fandom, but I would also go to prison for 86 years for Kim Wexler.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Finishing my first fic and getting a bunch of comments and kudos.
And BTS-wise, when they finally performed Run BTS live.
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Critical Role. I dipped back in here and there but the main show is just too much of a commitment to keep up with now. I still love those guys and I miss the storytelling. Calamity was the best storytelling of the year, which I can never mention in these lists because it's not a movie/book/tv show.
I miss it and I don't though, because the way the fandom was when I first started watching (5? ish years ago?) is completely gone.
13.Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
Taehyung solo album!
Also Taemin comeback, hopefully posting more fic, new RTD Doctor Who episodes, ...

But Taemin is definitely coming back, he posted a 100 day countdown recently and SHINee officially announced they're back in 2023.

It's very much a slow burn, it takes its sweet time to get going, but it's all worth it by the end. The whole final season wast just astonishing.
