2 small things to share with the world and one Opinion

I. I've been watching Community because of the campaigning over on Fandom March Madness for Troy. So I just want to say: the season two Christmas episode is the BEST THING EVER. Which is, admittedly, only a slightly better thing than the zombie episode and the paintball episode. I love it when the go meta on that show (which is a lot of the time). Also, Abed and Troy have the most epic bromance ever. I love them.

And I am developing a serious girlcrush on Alison Brie.

II. Glee season one was airing on tv yesterday (the episode "Hello") and I'd put it on for a little while. My mum, who has never even heard of Glee let alone seen anything of it, came by and watched about 5 minutes and this happened:

Mum: "Is the music the only good thing about this show?"

Me:"...Basically, yes."

I love that she figured that out after 5 minutes. I mean, it took me a few episodes to fully realise that!

III. I watched the Doctor Who Children in Need special, and I also listened to the dvd commentary for Sherlock. These two things basically represent perfectly my conflicted feelings on Steven Moffat.

I LOVE Sherlock. I think the concept is worked out perfectly and the writing in the first episode is great. I love hearing Moffat and Gatiss be fanboys about it, and hearing how they worked on it. I can't get around the fact that I really admire the way he writes. That first episode is pretty much perfect in every way: the characters, the plot, the balance between character and story etc. And the way he writes dialogue is probably my favourite ever.

And I had originally decided, after first seeing Sherlock, that I was going to ignore the stupid things he says in favour of the way he writes. But then he writes things like the CiN special, and that becomes REALLY HARD. I'm not that easily offended, I think. It often takes someone else to point sexist writing out to me. And I'm not one of those people who look for it just because it's Moffat. So when I am disgusted by an episode, you KNOW it's bad!

The whole crash is Amy's fault for wearing a skirt? She seduced her driving instructer to pass? Amy totally wants to shag herself? (and no, that last part is not female empowerment, it's male gaze wish-fulfilment - that is not a thing but whatever).
Not to mention the fact that Moffat ALREADY WROTE this special once before.

I'm still kind of looking forward to S6, but mostly for Rory, River Song and the stetson. My expectations are low when it comes to lack of plotholes, characterization and inoffensiveness.

Re: Moffat. UGH it's so true. If only there was a way for him to.... stop talking. The thing about the CiN special too is that it might not have been so offensive if he hadn't been LOL TWO AMY'S MAKE MEN HOT!!!! beforehand so that's the only interpretation you can really take from it.

Haha, your mum! ♥ It's true of course. I think I can keep enjoying Glee just for the music though.

I have yet to watch the CiN special :O

Oh my god, you are me. No really, EVERYTHING here is something I agree with, from Community to Moffat. I just...I could have dealt with the Amy/Amy even with his disgusting comments about it, but I can't deal with the rest of the sexist bullshit.

I 100% feel you on the Moffat problem. On the one hand, I think he's an incredibly talented writer. On the other hand...I think he's a sexist idiot. So, you know, it's a bit confusing.

I loved Sherlock (1 and 3 more than 2) but I hadn't heard about Moffat's feminism problems before. Not exactly looking forward to that but at least I'm forewarned - I'm watching DW with a friend and we're only in S2.

Community S1 is just a bottle of dorky sunshine.

:( I feel the same about Moffat. It's like, he is SUCH an incredible writer, he has such good ideas and he can write crazy-fabulous scripts. But then this insidious sexism just comes bleeding through ALL the time and I hate it. Especially because when it comes up I feel like I should mention that it bugs me, and then people accuse me of being a 'Moffat hater'. And I don't *like* the fact that it's colouring everything for me and I just...oh it makes me sad.

I still retain my hopes for series 6 though. I am determined that it will be awesome, and I'm just going to pretend the CR sketch didn't exist because whilst it was funny it was the same EXACT story as Time Crash and just SO MUCH WRONG.
