Questions asked by
space_dementia6 (like, a week ago but better late than never).
1.) What is it like being Belgian?
Tbh, it feels slightly ridiculous being Belgian. Our country has not had a government for over a year now, and even before that it wasn't a proper government for years. We're also very tiny, yet a large number of people think the country should be separated into two even smaller ones. We're pretty much a joke to most other European countries as well. (Hugh Laurie mocked us on Graham Norton just this week. Like, not even saying anything bad about Belgian, just saying "Belgium" is apparently enough)
But all in all, it's still a good place to live, it's central so trips to England an France don't take long at all, and I quite like the Belgian mentality, generally speaking. I don't think any other country is really better - everyone has issues with their government and most countries have much bigger problems than we do.
2.) your favourite season of being human?
I'd say season three. Season one was lovely as well, and I LOVED the seaon two finale episodes (but the first few eps I didn't like as much). But it's Season 3 that made the show go from 'fun' to OMG BEST SHOW EVER to me. Nina became a proper main character and one of my favourite tv characters in general,Mitchell didn't get away with being an emo vampire anymore, George and Nina were adorable, and Herrick was perfection. I loved the atmosphere of kind of quiet menace throughout most episodes in this season. Especially once Herrick was holed up in that attick, but also with the knowledge Mitchell was living on borrowed time.
Just, this season is one of the best things I have ever seen on television.
3.) which career do you wish to enter, in an ideal world?
Well, in a perfect world I am taking over Doctor Who after Moffat retires, clearly. Screenwriting is probably my dream job, but I'm not actively pursuing it at this point. Realistically, I would like a job in a cultural centre or a film organisation or whatever. Something in that sector behind the scenes.
4.) if you were to go to a desert island and could only take five films, which ones?
This is the question from HELL for me, tbh. :P
- The Painted Veil because it is my favourite always. The actors, the music, the landscape, it all just kind of adds up to make this beautiful and perfect movie.
- Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles because it is just so pretty and tragic. Amélie is the more obvious choice but while I love that one, I love this one so much more. It also stars Gaspard Ulliel, that may have something to do with it.
- Oldboy for when I get enough of slowmoving romance and need action and revenge and disturbing/stunning imagery.
- Moulin Rouge! to remember the madness of the world out there on my island. And because it has it all: music I can sing along to, cute boy (shallowness is allowed on a desert island okay), drama, fun. Even if it does star Nicole Kidman.
- The Philadelphia Story for when I need cheering up after all of the tragedy in my other choices. Seriously, I love all these movies but I am detecting a big theme of heartbreak and bittersweet endings (big on the bitter).
5.) if you could move anywhere, where?
PARIS. I'm not the kind of person who has great ambitions - I'm very afraid to dream big and have trouble imagining my future. The only dream I allow myself to really have and see as somewhat realistic, is someday moving to Paris. I've been there twice now and I'm going back in September, and that city just makes me feel like no other place in the world. I think I could really feel at home there. Biggest problem I have with this: my French is appalling. So it's a long-term plan, but I hope I'll achieve it someday.
II. You know how I always say I only watch Glee for the music, and the plot and characterization sucks but I don't care because I don't get attached to ships etc?
While I do like Kurt/Blaine because of the cute and the Darren Criss factor, I do not care enough about Glee to ship anything, really. I am getting slightly attached to the Santana storyline but am in constant trepidation because I am pretty sure it's only a matter of time before it gets messed up.
THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION TO MY 'NO SHIPPING RULE'. And that is Rachel/Jesse. You see, while I don't get attached to storylines I do get attached to characters. And I love Rachel Berry. A lot. And one of the things I hate most about this show is how it wants us to believe Finn/Rachel is, for some reason, a Good Thing and what we should want. It is not. Lea and JGroff have great chemistry, and Jesse is PERFECT for Rachel.
I was sorry he wasn't back this season so far, but it was okay because I could imagine them in my future!canon where they meet up and conquer Broadway. BUT HE'S BACK HE'S BACK HE'S BACK. And they are singing together!!!!!
Dammit, I hate caring about Glee D:.
