Waters of Mars
2009-11-15 22:16My view in short: Great episode, left me wanting more. Very dark, but we knew that. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
I'd sort of forgotten how much, lately.
Jumbled up thoughts - I'm still in a bit of an adrenaline rush or something
- I liked, as usual with RTD , all the side characters. I love how they aren't just 'random people getting killed in the background", but have loved ones and dreams. Of course that does make it harder to see them die. Especially that woman, I can't remember her name... But that's the only time I was actually close to tears. When she turns on that video, so it is the last thing she sees.... Yeah, it got me.
- The monsters were SO CREEPY! One of the best Who-monsters yet, I think.
But the end was what is going to stay with me (and everyone else, I dare say)
First of all, though, I have to say: RTD went too far with the angst. It is still a KIDS' SHOW! I mean, it was hardly less that Torchwood! And that was the most depressing thing I had ever seen.
But it was good.
- The scene with The Doctor hearing everyone die, and slowly walking away - I don't really have the words to express why, but I thought it was really good. You can sort of understand where he's coming from, why he decides to go back. It takes a lot of strength to walk away when you can help, and he just doesn't have it anymore.
- The quotes from previous eisodes was a cheesy trick to make his thoughts clear, maybe, but it did work.
( Did I hear a Rose-reference there, btw? - that will piss off the haters again)
EDIT: No, I didn't. Apparently, I am but a crazy fangirl hearing things that aren't there :p
- I was really happy at first, when he went to save them. It wasn't until I realised he'd brought them back to their own planet and time, that I understood this wasn't a good thing. At all.
- He has never, ever, been this terrifying. When The Doctor starts to abuse his power, you know it's very, very bad. And I think they did a great job showing the way he got there. It didn't seem like an unbelievable transition at all - he's always been headed here, especially lately.
- I did see the suicide coming, although I didn't believe they would actually go there on (I say it again) A KIDS' SHOW. I'm glad I'm not a kid watching this, I'd be traumatised.
This has made me confident it's going to be really good, but impossible not to get sucked in.
I do love those trailers with all that ~drama~. But in this case, it's probably justified...

Date: 2009-11-16 12:20 (UTC)I remember seeing that moment on Torchwood and thinking "Wow this is dark. At least DW will never go this far". AND THEN IT DID!

Date: 2009-11-16 20:30 (UTC)But I don't think any of the shows I watched as a kid were even remotely this depressing. I can't remember anyone commiting genocide even once .

Date: 2009-11-16 20:35 (UTC)THIS! I can't believe how dark it got at the end. I know we're supposed to see 10's mind unravel but WTF. I can't believe she committed suicide. I thought Adelaide was going to shoot him. I must have spent 30 minutes in shock after seeing WoM. I'm not a kid anymore, but I found the end a little traumatizing.
