Hi! I'm procrastinating instead of thesiswriting, so here's a fun meme about books and movies, stolen from
shah_of_blah:
Books
The Book I am reading: Haha, I'm technically reading about five books, because I started a few months ago for pleasure, and then I had to start reading for school, and then I had to read another one for school... So I have put Anna Karenina and The Girl who Played with Fire on hold a few months back. I've almost finished What a Carve Up! by Jonathan Coe for school, and there's a Dorothy Sayers novel lying around somewhere that I think I'll have to start over because it's been so long I don't remember what happened .
(I don't usually read several books at once? But it just happened like this, idek)
The book I am writing: I'm not ambitious enough to be working on a novel, lol. I am writing my thesis, and I've been writing some personal canon ficlets just for my own enjoyment - I probably won't ever put them online.
The 5 books I love the most: That's just cruel. A list that is in no way definite and completely dependant on the moment:
1. Harry Potter - JK Rowling (totally counting this as one book! )
2. The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
3. Wuthering Heights - Emily Brönte
4. The Ruby in the Smoke - Philip Pullman
5. Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami
The last book I received as a gift: A Dark Matter - Peter Straub. I haven't read it yet. I'm saving it for when I need a light, relaxing read after all the Serious School Reading.
The last book I gave as a gift I gave my mother A Widow's Story by Joyce Carol Oates for her birthday. Oates is one of her favourite authors, and that book is her autobiographical story of how she coped after her husband's death.
The Nearest Book: Collected poems of ee cummings. I like to just open it up and read one whenever I feel like it, so it's never too far away.
Dvds/movies (I changed the questions on this one a bit to make it more interesting)
The dvds I am watching : None at the moment, obviously? I'm clearly writing a meme at the moment, what kind of a question is this :P. But in the larger picture I guess I'm working my way through the Firefly dvd commentaries. And I'm vaguely planning to do a Prison Break S1 rewatch soonish.
TheDVDs I am waiting for movies I want to see in the theaters soon: The King's Speech, Black Swan, True Grit, Never Let me Go, Blue Valentine
Thefour five ten movies I love the most (I REALLY tried to pick 5 but it couldn't be done. This is the kind of thing I spend way too long thinking about and then it becomes hugely important to make no mistakes :P)
1. The Painted Veil
2. Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles
3. The Philadelphia Story
4. Oldboy
5. Reservoir Dogs
6. Moulin Rouge!
7. Casablanca
8. Requiem for a Dream
9. Letter to an Unknown Woman
10. Before Sunset
The Last dvd I received as a gift: That was probably when I got Firefly and Sherlock for christmas.
The Last dvd I gave as a gift: The Birds; to my best friend. It's kind of a thing between us, because we watched it together years ago and she isn't as into movies - especially older ones - as I am, but she LOVED that one, and she still talks about how scared she was of birds for weeks after watching it.
The nearest dvd: Inglourious Basterds is on my desk because I just bought it the other day.

Date: 2011-03-06 00:30 (UTC)I tend to read five books at once as well. Multitasking is the word I'm looking for :) And HP is totally one book, never let anyone tell you otherwise!
