I. I finished A Dance with Dragons (like two weeks ago but I forgot to post about it, OOPS). General thoughts and some hopes for what comes next:
- I'm a bit torn about this one - some parts were my favourites of the series, while others were just boring.
- I really love Jon. I started to through Ygritte from SoS on, but this is the one where I started loving him for himself. He's grown so much and is such a surprisingly good leader!
- Dany and Tyrion both bored me tbh. (I did love Penny - she was adorable and I'm surprised she hasn't been killed off yet. I'm sure it'll happen.) But neither of them seemed to do much at all so yeah. Boring.
- The Reek chapters are pretty much the most disturbing thing in the world, ever. This whole storyline is one of my very favourite things in this series so far, even though I had to put the book down a few times because I couldn't quite handle how visceral it got.
- The part of Cersei doing her walk across the city was another example of brilliant but disturbing. I was slightly disappointed with her POV in AFFC but this made me love her more than ever. Also, Jaime needs to get over himself and come get her already, what is his damn problem :P
What I want to happen in the next books:
Cersei and Jaime are in the same room again FINALLY. Then they kill each other. (VALONQAR)
Sansa/Arya reunion, preferably extremely awkward because they hardly recognise each other. Oh, and Sansa kills Littlefinger.
Dany FINALLY gets to Westeros.
Lots of chapters featuring the Sand Snakes in King's Landing because BEST SECONDARY CHARACTERS.
Sansa, Arianne, and Asha all survive and get a throne and/or happiness.
More Lady Stoneheart and her revenge mission (meeting with Jaime etc).
So many people make predictions but I'm not even trying. All I'm sure of is that Cersei and Jaime will die and that Jon and Dany are endgame players. And there will be dragons and ice zombies. That's it.
II. I also finished Six Feet Under.
(Also; the song playing over the end of ep 5 of Luther is Breathe Me, the same song playing over the end of Six Feet Under, which I watched the day before. And if you have seen both these shows you can appreciate how traumatising my relationship with this song is now).
Onto the Thoughts on SFU
When I say I cried, I mean I sobbed. Like a crazy person. Thinking back on it, I'm even a bit disappointed by the montage thingy because they all die of old age? Really? But it's just so perfectly executed that it works, and I can't think of a better way to finish a show - any show, but especially this one.
So thoughts on the series in general (because I can't remember when I last posted about it):
- Brenda is my favourite. From what I've seen with other people, they usually get really attached to one particular character on this show, and for me it's Brenda. Which worries me, kind of, especially in the early seasons because I sometimes end up overidentifying with her, and that can't be a good thing ;) But she is awesome.
- Pretty much all the characters are annoying assholes at times - especially Nate. But it works, and somehow I don't despise them. The huge exception to this rule, though, is Federico, who I wish would have just disappeared somewhere in S2 and just returned as a extra here and there. I hate how much screentime his story got - time that could have gone to the others! And then he got a happy ending! :/ I loved Vanessa though, and loved her side of the story. I just wish we'd seen more from her side because I DO NOT CARE ABOUT RICO. God.
- This show is really emotional. I don't think I've ever had to watch a show this slowly, just because I couldn't really deal with more than one or two episodes a day, and not every day. It just gets to you.
- Other people I didn't like: Lisa and Maggie. I was okay with Lisa in the end because it all got a bit tragic there, and it's hardly her fault Brenda is way more awesome. But Maggie? Idk I felt like I should try and see it from her side and all but just. no. If you're presenting yourself all sweet and religious and perfect and then sleep with a man whose wife is pregnant, I don't care how bad you feel when he dies. Just go away.
- I just want to hug Claire. And David, and Keith. Ruth not so much because she annoys me. I like her! And I feel terribly sorry for her and sometimes I cheer her on and okay, maybe sometimes I do want to hug her. But a lot of the time she annoys me too.

Date: 2012-02-24 03:09 (UTC)i find it really difficult to talk about SFU with any sort of balanced-ness. the finale was probably one of the moments in TV which actually changed my view on life and such. the tears i had for that moment were months long. i could not stop thinking about. i think the show has a unique ability to evoke emotions even in moments when the plot or characters are not always as perfect as such emotions would call for. maggie was a fucker near the end, i thought and the reaction she has to george at the end is just fucked. this is easily my favourite tv series of all time i think.
