2015 - Year in review

Man, Livejournal. Remember livejournal? Definitely the best fandom-time in my life was on here. I wasn't even going to post this thing here, I just came by to look at last year's list, but now I'm all nostalgic. I used to talk to people on here! I had friends! I discussed the things I was fannish about! Now I just occasionaly open Tumblr and stare at pictures or read weird memes.
Like, Hamilton! Imagine I had loved Hamilton in the Lj era, I would have made such a long post about it, with bullet points and rambling sentences. Now I just kinda like it silently by myself?
I keep thinking, once fandom as a whole moves on to a better platform maybe I'll be part of it again properly, but it's been about three years and Tumblr is still the only thing happening.
Anyway, there are like five people who have posted anything on here at all the last year (I have such respect for you btw) so this is mostly for me.
One day I'm going to come here to check last year's list and the site just won't exist anymore and it will basically be a whole part of my life that's been wiped out.
Books
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
The Stand
The Age of Innocence
A Place of Greater Safety
many more, and so so much fic
Movies
Whiplash
Pride
La Grande Bellezza
The Act of Killing
Once upon a Time in America
Snowpiercer
Television
Sons of Anarchy (finally finished it pffffft that took years)
Justified S4-5
True Detective
Music
Hamilton
... maybe other things? Man I never listen to music, largely because I'm always listening to podcasts. so I'll make a new heading;
Podcasts
Serial (like the rest of the world)
Answer me This
Love and Radio
and older favourites I still like, because this is the first year I'm adding podcasts:
The Empire Podcast
Kermode & Mayo
How Did This Get Made
Celebrity crushes
Daveed Diggs
Matthew-McConaughey-as-Rust
honestly, still Dean Winchester shhh
2015 is the year that I
Managed to start reading a lot again (37 books!) and watched more movies
generally managed to be a more functional human - I think I'm getting better at figuring out what will make me happy in the long term rather that doing what I feel like in the moment (that was usually doing nothing)
went on holiday to Berlin and London and had a great time in both
had a steady job I liked, with good colleagues
finished library school (the short course anyway)
saw a lot of friends and acquaintances buy houses, have commited relationships, get engaged/married, and felt sort of on hold in my own life
last year I wanted to
Have more happy periods than bad ones : I think I did. I'm writing this is a good period so I might be biased, but while I did get depressed and had some horrible self-hating days, overall I was happy
work on my skills that will get me ahead: blog writing, languages, computer stuff etc : Not really? I did learn to work better with excel, which is what I think 'computer stuff' means. I also wrote some blogs, and actually wrote a lot of diary stuff, which helped.
get a new job or at least one lined up: Not yet. The future is very insecure right now. I'm doing some exams, and there might be a chance I can keep this job. We'll see.
pass all my classes: I did! Yay :)
have a plan for when to move out: I mean if you can call 'when my life makes sense' a plan? When I get a steady job, I suppose, but if I don't, I'm not sure what plan B is.
try harder to support the people I love: Yeah I still suck at this
This year I want to
Get a job with some security
Also get a job I actually like, which may not be the same one?
Make plans to move out - maybe not actually do it but at least be actively looking for a place
Read as many or more books as last year
Watch lots of movies
Do something to improve my French
Hold on to the friends I have
Learn to sow
