Fandom
It’s been all BTS, all the time. The first half of the year was still full-on obsession, where it was very hard to focus on anything else. The latter half was calmer, in the sense that I still follow everything they do and think about them every day, but sometimes I do other stuff, too! Overal, I don’t mind it. I got two of my best friends into the fandom as well, and that’s been the most fun thing that’s happened to me, fan-wise, in years. We’ve now taken several roadtrips with BTS/kpop blaring, we got together to watch one of the online concerts, we text eacht other when something happens. It’s amazing.
Favorite BTS moments:
I watched three online concerts this year, one of them at 5 am, and they were all magnificent
Getting up at 6 to listen to Butter and the relief when it wasn’t terrible, lol
Honestly, a lot of BTS fic has made me very happy this year, none more so than the Greatest Fic of All, Real worlds can be manic too, finally updating
I…wrote fic?? That’s never happened before, so it’s notable. It’s not finished, it’s not popular, and it’s not very good, but I’ve really enjoyed writing it!
Music
BTS, of course, though not as much as you’d expect (no new album this year)
Other kpop: mainly Taemin, Got7
Andrew Bird
Olivia Rodrigo
Taylor Swift
playlist
Podcasts
Heavyweight
Dead Eyes
old faves: Empire, Pilot, Redhanded, My Dad Wrote a Porno
2021 is the year that I
Was still living through a global pandemic
Was still spending most days thinking about BTS
Got a lot closer to two friends I was already close to, thanks to the shared kpop insanity. Had two really great holidays with them, lots of good conversations and so, so much fun.
Didn’t do many spectacular things (pandemic!) but generally felt good. Really started feeling that sense of being past 30 and getting secure in myself? Not as reliant on what people think of me. A better sense of what’s important.
Got to be part of a project at work I really enjoyed, with more responsibility, which made me happy!
last year I wanted to
If life returns to 'normal' at some point after the vaccinations start: enjoy all the little things I have been missing because of the pandemic. Restaurants, bars, theaters and concerts and cinemas full of people, crowded streets without a mask on, seeing my friends every few weeks in real life, going on trips, going on holiday. The pandemic isn’t gone and life isn’t back to normal, but there have been less restrictions so this has been possible. I’ve really tried to take a moment to appreciate these things. I’ve very much enjoyed going out to eat, or to a cinema or theater. I’ve enjoyed, with ups and downs, crowds. I’ve definitely loved the one trip abroad I got to go on to Germany, that was the highlight of my year. Sitting in a restaurant in a foreign country was 10 times more amazing after not being able to do it for a while.
Drive again this is the number one thing I feel really terrible about but I have NOT! I did try. Like once.
Do yoga regularly Yes! Not quite every day but often!
Try to find a good balance between fandom and the other things I love This is still a struggle. I’d say I’ve tried, and it hasn’t always worked, but it’s also not a huge problem. For example, I’m really happy I’m keeping up with Critical Role again, which is technichally fandom, but something that I also struggled with keeping up with for a while.
It's so hard to look forward or plan anything not knowing how the pandemic will evolve next year! So maybe just...keep it simple. Honestly, I just want to try living in the moment more. Just do the things I want to do, if I can. Don't take anything for granted It’s been a good year.
Next year I want to
urgh. Drive.
keep doing yoga
watch more movies, read more books, watch more tv. Less youtube and kpop vids!
generally, be happy.
