So anyone who is somewhat involved in Harry Potter fandom or has a few HP fans on his flist may have noticed there is somewhat of a renaissance going on. This is because of several things happening at once: Infinitus was last week, the DH trailer came out, WWoHP opened, and in JUST TWO DAYS A Very Potter Sequel is released on youtube.
I'm going to start rereading DH tonight.
If you are feeling nostalgic, I recommend going to Mark reads Harry Potter . This is the blog of a 26-year-old guy who has recently read Twilight one chapter at a time and made mocking blogposts about it. He then decided to do the same for HP.It's just wonderful to read how he falls in love with the world and the characters, and how instead of mocking and satire it is mainly flailing and excitement.
Reading this is the closest we can come to experiencing the thrill of that first read, being awed by the twists and mysteries. Especially his reaction to the final chapters of book 1 & 3 are great. (He's just started on GoF)
I may have burs in to tears reading his conclusion on the First book. (I was tired okay. And feeling very nostalgic).
Day 7: Favorite female character and why?
This is hard. I love lots of women, like Fleur (she's smart and brave and totally puts Molly in her place, okay), OoTP!Tonks (but not the later version), Ginny (haters to the left!).
But I guess I have to go with the traditional answer: Hermione Granger. I I like that she is smart and proud of it, that even when everyone mocks her, she still shows what she knows, I like that she is often the voice of reason when Harry is being stupid. I like that she actually falls for the stupid idiot who doesn't realise she's a girl until he's fourteen instead of for someone who would be the 'smart' choice.. I don't think I have to really explain Hermione to anyone who's read the books, though. :)
Day 8: What do you think would be your favorite lesson?
Charms, I think. Or possibly Transfiguration. Because having a wand and doing magic is really what it's all about.
Day 9: Least favorite male character?
Draco Malfoy. I don't exactly hate him, but he was an annoying sod for the first 5 books, and though he got some development in 6 & 7, it wasn't enough.
In general, I don't mind him that much, but I am mainly annoyed by the enourmous worship the character somehow gets in fandom. If you have to change his personality completely for him to fit your fic, there is something wrong, okay.

Date: 2010-07-20 16:12 (UTC)Very weird: I like Hermoine, but I wouldn't call her my favourite character. It's that Hermoine can be so utterly unreasonable when it suits her. I know that we can all be like that about some things, but I every time she does it she just really annoys me.

Date: 2010-07-24 11:26 (UTC)I'd probably like Ginny more if she wasn't such a fangirl. Or if her relationship with Harry in book 5 had featured more moments of them truly getting to know each other. Because despite the fact that Ginny acts normal around Harry, I still had the feeling that they didn't really know each other well enough to have this "please don't leave me" romance. Make sense?

Date: 2010-07-20 17:00 (UTC)So much love.
Also, Hermione is awesome and probably would get called my favourite character, but I do have some immense issues with her. I try really hard to ignore the part where she scarred a girl for life for being a scared fifteen year old and everyone thought it was okay, for example.
ETA - thank you for the link, btw! :) Just looking at the first post I totally love 'what he knows'. Sirius Black is a bad guy? OH I'm so excited! :D

Date: 2010-07-20 18:14 (UTC)I was also about 10 years old when I read PS, and I didn't want to at first because it was already becoming a hype (so it can't be any good). But then I started anyway, and yeah, I couldn't put it down either! And when I finished, I immediately started again. ♥
I don't always agree with Hermione either, and sometimes she does annoy me. But in general, I do love her and she's definitely my favourite female character. Though Ron is probably my favourite of the trio.

Cannot believe I just spent my whole afternoon reading one guy's thoughts on HP. I love him. It's the best thing ever. God I squee so hard when he questions things I KNOW THE ANSWER TO! :D

Date: 2010-07-20 17:15 (UTC)Oh, Hermione. I am Hermione in so many ways, and she was such a fantastic role model for me and many of my friends growing up. I wouldn't say she's my favorite female character (that probably goes to McGonagall or Luna), but she is half of the first OTP I ever had, long before I knew what an OTP was. I used to spend recess in elementary school explaining to other kids exactly why Ron and Hermione were meant to be.
I am so excited about AVPS. I have a friend who saw it at Infinitus, and while she didn't give me any major spoilers, I did get some rather exciting information about certain characters appearing...why can't the 22nd be now?

Date: 2010-07-20 18:20 (UTC)In primary school, I actually started being more active in class because of Hermione. If she could keep putting her hand up even when nobody else was bothering, then I could as well! :P And explaining Ron/Hermione to other kids is adorable :D
I KNOW. I am soooo excited about AVPS it's getting ridiculous. But I just know it's going to be amazing :D

Date: 2010-07-20 18:59 (UTC)I know! Little seven-year-old me was always a know-it-all, but once I read about Hermione I learned to ignore the people who called me a nerd or the teacher's pet or whatever. :P She made me proud to be "that weird smart kid."

Date: 2010-07-20 21:13 (UTC)His reaction to PoA was wonderful, because it reminds you of how Blown your mind was the first time. Which is why it's my fav book, anyway :D Though his reaction to the end of PS was awesome as well!
