2 exams to go! I have no idea how it's been so far. Apart from grammar (which I know I failed) I have no idea if I passed my exams or not. Today's went alright, I think, but it could just be an impression. It's happened before that I thought I'd pass for sure and I ended up with an 8.

Day 22: Favourite series finale

That's easy: Life on Mars. don't read if you haven't seen the show! really! )

I still have to finish AtA. It will take a few months at this rate :/

Day 23: Most annoying character

When I first read this a few weeks ago, I knew I was going to go for Sue Sylvester from Glee. It's probably my biggest unpopular fandom opinion that I don't worship the ground she walks on. But to be honest, in the final, I kind of started to like her (and before that as well, just a bit). But I still don't find her all that funny. Sorry.

I don't really have anything to say about The Lodger. James Corden was good, Matt Smith was hilarious and wore a towel, the plot was very WFT? and I'm excited for next week.

And a meme to end with:
Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favourite icon of yours. Then post this to your own journal using your own favourite icon
I love all my icons! I only have 15, so I only have the best :P But this one, and my Morgana one, and my default are the top three. So comment so I can look at some pretty. And if you want to tell me what your favourite icon of mine is without the memeposting, go for it. ;)
muneca_brava: (run hands)
Do you know how hard it is to try to study grammar instead of reading Harry Potter fic, and then your syllabus uses EXAMPLES OUT OF HARRY POTTER? I dragged myself away from the internet, studied a few pages and then it goes "on a flying motorbike"... Which makes me want to read about Sirius in a leather jacket taking Remus out for a spin and and :((
So because I didn't study as hard as I should have, and because Grammar sucks, I just totally failed it. Bah.

On to happier things:
Day 21: Favourite ship

Photobucket

Doctor/Rose is the reason I got an Lj, and got really involved in fandom. It's from my favourite show, which doesn't hurt of course. I'm not really that passionate about them anymore because in canon their story has been told and I've read just about every kind of story fanfiction has to offer. But they're still very special to me, and I can get quite defensive when people bash them (or Rose in particular), which does happen a lot when I venture outside my safe flist zone.

They're certainly my nr 1 tv OTP. I have a hard time explaining why exactly - at least in a few sentences, I could probably write an essay on it :p. But I think it's because of how they were clearly in love but without the angst and the UST, especially Ten and Rose just had fun. And most of all because they were tragically separated. It really took them being torn apart for me to ship it.

Vincent and the Doctor reaction:
Slight spoilers for the episodes )
muneca_brava: (Default)
I've acquired a Dreamwidth account. I'm [personal profile] muneca_brava there and I'm crossposting this from there, just to try it out. I won't really use it, I'm far too settled in my Lj corner.
But Dreamwidth seems nice, in case something goes wrong with Lj. Also, I can have the username I always wanted. - When I made my Lj account I was not intending to use it, it was just to not have to say I was over 18 all the time, and so I could watch some communities.
Then I started commenting, writing fic, adding friends, posting etc and now I don't really want to change everything to get a new username even though I hate this one.

Edit: clearly I AM an Lj idiot and you can rename. Might do that sometime.

Day 20: Favourite kiss
click click )
There are surprisingly few kisses I could think of that I really like. Not any in DW, really. The Logan/Veronica first kiss is lovely, but I've said enough about them in this meme already I think ;) Am I forgetting any??
muneca_brava: (parker/hardison)
Day 18 - Best title sequence

That tune just always gets me in the right mood for the show :)

Day 19 - Best tv show cast

Either Merlin or Leverage. Merlin because they are all pretty (I never claimed not to be superficial) and because they have chemistry with everything and everyone.
Leverage because it's just a very solid cast. They're all good and funny, they seem to get along really well in real life.

Oh, and Firefly of course! The actors all really believed in the show, even when nobody else seemed to. And not only were they all really interesting characters and had good chemistry with each others, they're still friends years later, which I think is rare.

Doctor Who: I haven't posted a reaction to Saturday's episode yet, mainly because I just didn't really have that much to say. The two-parter bored me, I have no idea what happened in the plot and I have no desire to see it again. Matt Smith was cute, though. But once again Amy didn't do anything, and it's just not the kind of story I like. And then the end of Cold Blood... spoilers )
And then next week we get Richard Curtis and Bill Nighy!! :DD I would say it is stupid for them to just get in a fun adventure after this episode, but... it looks really good.
I am going to be so dissapointed when it turns out Bill is only in it for 30 seconds. I LOVE HIM :)

I also have a question; does anybody know if I can make my journal and friends page show 20 entries again instead of 10? I can't seem to find how to change it. Found it!
muneca_brava: (Arthur)
Day 17: Favourite mini series

Brideshead Revisited . So this is pretty old (1981) but I love it with all my heart! Especially the beginning and the end. (The middle goes on for a bit). It is such an intricate, slowly moving, utterly British show, and stays very loyal to the book.
So if you don't know it,short summary )

I just adore this story, especially because of how Anthony Andrews plays Sebastian. He is, as you may have seen a few days ago, one of my favourite people in fictional history! I love the book as well, and I think this show is a perfect interpretation. Last year, a movie was made, and it was...not quite comparable.

There are also a lot of similarities between Charles/Sebastian (not that I ever shipped them!) and Remus/Sirius. I'm still not sure if I love R/S so much because they remind me of them, or if I just have a huge love in general for teenage British boys, where one is kind of quiet and bookish and the other one is rich, pretty, destructive and from a crazy family...

Second meme taken from [livejournal.com profile] geek_beauty(I had an exam today, I'm allowed to do nothing for a while):

List-O-Men
1. Bold the names of guys you’d definitely get with.
2. Italicize the names of guys you might get with after a little persuasion.
3. Leave the guys who don’t do anything for you alone.
4. Put a question (?) mark after the guys you’ve never heard of.
5. Strike the guys you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole.
6. Add three guys to the list.
long list, mostly of people I don' know )

+ My three additional ones:
Bradley James
Gaspard Ulliel
Richard Armitage

Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

Well, it's over now, but until last week I loved to watch Over the Rainbow. It was on after Doctor Who, and it is a talent hunt to find someone to play Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber's'The Wizard of Oz'. I don't watch any other talent shows, but this one is different. They don't mock people who do terrible auditions, the judges are pretty nice, and there is hardly any focus on the candidates' personal lives. All the girls are really good, as well. They can all sing and if any of them is a bitch, we don't see it.

Idk, I just really like it. It's so bright and colourful and they sing a lot of showtunes as well as pop music,...
I hope they do one of these next year. I saw the last one as well, it's just really fun. ;)

This is the girl that won (and I was totally rooting for her so yay!): Click for youtube clip )

Day 15 - Your favourite female character

I was thinking about posting a little list here like I did with fav male character, but that would be cheating. Because I'm not in doubt about this at all, so I'm sorry, Doctor's Companions and kick-ass females all around, but nobody can beat

Veronica Mars
I'm not sure if I want to be her of if I want her to be my best friend. But she is awesome. She was very young and had been though a lot of shit (her mother was a drunk and left her, her father was fired, her best friend was murdered, her boyfriend broke up with her and she got raped - all in quick succession) but she just kept going and became a much stronger person because of it. She's snarky and is often in trouble with the police, she carries a taser and hangs out with motor riding gangs, but she also likes ponies and can be very vulnerable.

She and her dad have the best father-daughter relationship I've ever seen on tv, and she has a very cute and sarcastic on-and-off boyfriend by the name of Logan. You may have seen him on my favourite male characters list ;).

She also works as a private detective after school. Because she is awesome, did I mention? xD

This meme is going to go a lot more slowly the next few weeks, jsyk.

Day 14 - Your favourite Male character

This took me a while. There are a lot of great male characters out there that I love (And its a good thing this is only about tv characters). I thought about these:

- The Doctor (But somehow, though I love him, I've always been slightly more attached to the companions)

- Malcolm Reynolds (greates antihero ever imho. You never know what he'll do next)

- Logan Echolls (because he was so fantastically snarky and mean and had some of the best lines ever on television)

- Sebastian Flyte (just because. I have always loved him and his destructiveness - talking about the miniseries version, of course. I read the book with him in my head, anyway. (if you don't know who this is, wait 'til Day 17 xD))

But eventually, this is who I went with )
muneca_brava: (Default)
Day 12 - An episode you've watched more than 5 times

I'm not someone who re-watches episodes a lot. Even if I really really love something, I start liking it less if I see it a lot. So even my very favourite DW episodes, I don't think I've seen 5 times. Some scenes of them, sure (like the run in TSE or the end of Turn Left).
cut for boring babble... I must be procrastinating )

Day 13 - Favorite childhood show

I don't really remember what I loved when I was a small child. But I do remember that when I was about 9 years old, I loved Pacific Blue. And I had a crush on Jeff Stearns.

Day 11: A show that disappointed you

Mad Men. It is always being hailed as this brilliant and sophisticated show, and a friend of mine recommended it, so I watched the first 4/5 episodes. I can see why it gets the recognition, and I do like the originality of it, and some of the actors (Christina Hendricks!). But it just bores me. I didn't expect action or anything, but there is hardly any intrigue and I just fond myself drifting away watching it, and doing other stuff. Nothing happens. So it's definitely just me, and I'm not saying nobody should watch it. Just that it disappointed me.

And because one meme at a time is not enough:

If you comment on this entry, I shall...

1. Respond with something random about you.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
3. Tell you my first memory of you.
4. Tell you what animal you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you.
6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
7. Tell you my least favorite thing about you.
8. Challenge you to post this on your journal.

I don't know most of you that well, but comment anyway! It's a way to get to know each other better, y/y?
muneca_brava: (Marauders)
Day 10: A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving

IDK, if you start watching a show, don't you think you might like it?? I generally don't watch shows unless there's at least some element that makes me believe it'll be worth it.

The only thing that comes to mind is Ashes to Ashes but I talked about that already! I thought it would never live up to LoM but I'm loving it.

That was a terribly uninteresting answer :/ Sorry!

I also have a fic rec request! This is probably a long shot bt whatever, I'll try. I know that a lot of people, no matter what fandom they're in now, have a history in Harry Potter fandom.
I'm looking for any fic of epic length that you can recommend. I have this whole pile of books on my shelf that I'm going to read when I HAVE MY LIFE BACK in a few months, and I also want some fic to look forward to.
Last year, I read the Promises Unbroken Universe, and I loved it so very very much! I really feel like just disappearing into that universe for a few days.

So if anyone would happen to know a good Harry Potter fic of considerable length and epicness, link me up! Don't worry about the pairings, if it's not my thing I'll skip it. There are just too many ships to explain which ones I like. I'd prefer it if the focus is on plot rather than romance though.

ETA: it occurred to me to give my own rec :) up there I mentioned the Unbroken Universe. Link goes to Robin4's ff page. In short, its a massive AU where Sirius was the Secret Keeper, James and Lily don't die and the war goes on for over a decade after. No focus on any ship (well, some James/Lily and Sirius/OFC but it's really not a romance fic). It's quite dark, but so is canon. Really long but really good, if anyone feels like wasting a few days on it :P
muneca_brava: (veronica/logan)
Day Nine: Best scene ever

Okay, another very hard one. I have a great love for the wall scene in Doomsday because it is just so simple, well-acted and heartbreaking. And the longer I think about this, the more great scenes I think of.

But in the interest of keeping this meme a little diverse rather than answering to every question with something Doctor Who related, I going for another one, that certainly would have won a few years ago without competition:the Epic scene from Veronica Mars. I was quite a huge shipper (still am though I haven't rewatched in a long time and am out of the fandom)
I love this scene because while it's quite romantic, it's also really realistic. I could have gone with a scene with swelling music or lovers reuniting but I love this because it is so simple. While Logan means what he says, he wouldn't have said it if he wasn't drunk, and Veronica just isn't going to throw herself at him just like that.
I even had the line No-one writes songs about the ones that come easy written in my folders in high school.
Okay, so it isn't the best scene ever but it's one that I have a lot of love for and is certainly one of my favourites!

No real spoilers for the show in this clip. Watch it, even if you don't know the show!

Clicky for a youtube clip of the epic scene! )

Aww, I finally get to use my V/L icon again! :D I miss them.

Day Four: Your favourite show ever

Doctor Who.
thank you thank you

There are shows that I think are better made, or more consistently better (DW has really terrible episodes, okay) like Firefly or Life on Mars,... But I don't love those in the same way I love DW. It's the show that made me really involved in fandom (I read Veronica Mars fanfic before, but that was it), and the level of excitment a really brilliant episode gives me is unique. I started in the fandom focussed on shipping, but after a while that stopped. And now, it's still my most active fandom but not really focussed on my OTP anymore.

I love the actors, the writers and the producers. I listen to the dvd commentaries and the podcasts (I don't do that with any other show). I really just care about it a lot.

I first fell in love with it near the end of S4, and I remember thinking that by the time it came back (year and a half later) I'd probably forgotten all about it. But by that time, I turned out to love it more than ever.

Day Five: A show you hate

I don't watch shows I don't like so it never gets to the point of hate, I think. Cliché answer is reality tv, but I just ignore that.

Oh! You know what I really despise? Those American family sitcoms type According to Jim and Still Standing. I do like some American sitcoms like Friends and HIMYM, but I'm talking about the kind that is all about a perfect happy all-american family that gets in to embarrassing and often offensive shenanigans that are painfully unfunny and are just meant to show how amazing the American suburban life is. Bah.
muneca_brava: (Default)
Day Three: Your favourite new tv show (Aired this tv season)

This is a hard one. There aren't really any brand new shows that I love, they've all been going for a  while...
Basing this on shows that are currently for the first time on BELGIAN tv (or American or British but I can't think of any there), I'm going for Ashes to Ashes. I know it's kind of cheating, because it's been going for a while on the bbc, but it's the first time it's on tv here and the first time I've seen it.
I watched Life on Mars a while ago and loved it. So I was quite weary of a new show with basically the same plot but another lead (replacing Sam Tyler/John Simm who was amazing). And for the first few episodes, I was underwhelmed. Yes, it did have some cool stuff and some of the things that made LoM good, and of course it still had Gene Hunt (which was more than reason enough to stick with it). But I didn't like Alex all that much, and I wasn't really interested in the mystery.

I'm not sure what changed, but after a few episodes, I started liking Alex more and more and I even started to like her with Gene. And now I'm really into the plot as well! I was totally hooked to the silver screen during the S1 finale, and now I'm really impatient because I have to wait a week for every new episode.

Please no spoilers in the comments for anything past 2x2. I know some serious shit is going down in the season that's currently on bbc1, but I have managed to stay away from spoilers so far!
muneca_brava: (Eleven and Amy)
Day Two: A show that you wish more people were watching

Hmmm... Maybe Leverage? I don't know that many people who watch it, and it's so much fun! It's a procedural, kind of, but with quite some character development (because that's what I love in a tv show), and it's perfectly entertainig. It's the show I always go back to when I am stressed out or generally need to relax.

Also: I went shopping today for the first time in a reallllly long time. So of course I bought a lot, but I was with my mother so I didn't have to pay for ANYTHING. It was amazing!:D

Wich means I got a lot of clothes (50s style flowery dress :P) , and the following:
- Murakami novel ♥ Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

- Newest Ian Rankin novel - The Complaints

- Stieg Larsson - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I want to know what all the fuss is about, basically.

- Peter Verhelst - De Kleurenvanger

- Serenity (!! ♥)I was so excited to find it :)

- The Boat that Rocked :D

- ...Mamma Mia :S (my mother wanted it, okay. And I may not have argued because I think it's funny)

Can you tell I'm bored? :P This post is pure procrastination. I'm too knackered to do any homework today.
