I. I'm having one of those periods that I have occasionally where I still hang out on Lj and comment but every time I think about posting it feels like too much work. I'd have to, like, form opinions on something and stuff, GOD. Yeah, I'm at the height of my laziness. So those memes I reaaaally need to finish will have to wait until I'm out of this funk.

I do have a lot of ~feelings and meta in my head. Mainly about Angel (and I think that when I get back to the Buffy 30 meme I'll just make it into a Buffy&Angel meme).And I really want to do the Awesome Women meme thing, because I don't think I've been talking about my love for extraordinary women characters nearly enough on this blog. AND I'm almost caught up on Mad Men so expect a post on that as well (probably somewhat coupled to the awesome women thing actually).

I. I've had two exams so far. The first one went okay, I think. But today's was terrible. I was hoping I wouldn't have resits this year but it doesn't look like it'll happen :(. The course is just really not my thing (it's about varieties of English and SO boring), and the exam was hellish. He asked ridiculous questions and just... I tried to write lots of stuff down, but most of the time I didn't even know what was meant by a question so I'm not very hopeful here.

My third and last exam is in a week. It's Modernism, which is luckily a lot more interesting, but I have to do a lot of reading (mostly academic papers, yuk). I'm starting tomorrow because today I just want to SLEEP.

Andrew. He annoys me. I know he's supposed to be kind of annoying, but I'm guessing in an endearing way or something? I don't know, but it doesn't work for me. I didn't like the geek trio as a whole when they were supposed to be funny with a few exceptions like the James Bond discussion (I did like it when they were scary, and I didn't mind them as sort-of villans). And Andrew was basically just another reason that season 7 was disappointing.

II. Buffy meme Day 5: Least Favourite Female character:

I pretty much like all recurring characters on this show (even though I sometimes hate their development or some of their characterization, I still always loved them at some point). So I'll go with the completely unsurprising answer of Kennedy. Which sort of feels like a cheat of an answer because I don't care enough about her or the episodes she's in to really have an opinion. But because she is the only female character I feel this way about, Kennedy it is!

III. I'm rewatching Veronica Mars during my breaks! It's been a long time since I watched the episodes, which means I've forgotten most of the weekly plots so it feels pretty new. I'm glad to see that both Veronica and Logan are just as great as I remember them. ♥ Veronica Mars is still my hero.

I am now at the point in the show where I originally went from 'deputy Leo is cute. They should date' to 'OMG Logan/Veronica IT'S TRUE LOVE'. Or something. XD But seriously, Leo smiled too much anyway. It's kind of creepy.

I. I feel like watching musicals lately. It's my guilty pleasure! Anybody have any recs for a good musical? - any language, period and cheesefactor welcome.

II. Day 26: If you could be able to work one spell without a wand what would it be?

Reparo. All the broken jewellery I could fix! XD

Day 27: Would you rather own The Invisibility Cloak, The Resurrection Stone or The Elder Wand?

D'you know, I think this is quite an interesting question. I always liked how in the book, the trio said how obvious the choice was - and then they each picked something else. The Elder Wand would be lowest on my wanted list (though if we're talking about a wand I'd pick that because yay magic;)). The Invisibility Cloak would be the obvious choice, but I'm...not quite sure what I'd do with it? Other than illegal stuff like stealing and stalking.
And I know it's wrong, but wouldn't everybody who's lost someone close to them want a go with the Resurrection Stone? Sure, the people would just be ghosts of a kind, but it's chance to see them again, talk to them for a little while, tell them the things you never got to say... So if I'm honest... That's probably what I'd choose, even if it is wrong.

Day 28: Do you listen to Wizard Wrock, what do you think about it?

I've never listened to wrock, and have no intention of doing so.

I. Finished reading The Time Traveller's Wife. It was better than I'd expected, and the end made me cry HARD. At first I was a bit dubious about the whole 'Hi I'm your future husband/wife' thing because uhm, free choice anyone? But then they were really cute together so I accepted it XD.
I'm not sure if I want to see the movie though. Has anybody seen it & was it any good?

II. Jewel Staite is coming to Belgium in October (to a con) and now I really want to go :/ I've never been to a con in my life though, they kind of scare me :P I'm going to think about this, and then see if I know anyone who want to go with me. :)

III. Day 23: Any part of the books/movies that makes you cry?

Sirius dying had me in tears for days when I first read it :/ It was so out of the blue, and pointless (which was, in fact, exactly the point - anyone can die). I was shocked, and almost personally offended because out of all the characters, my favourite died? And then I became convinced he would be back in some form or other, and there would be some deep meaning behind the veil. Apparently not D:

I didn't cry over Dumbledore.

But I pretty much cried my way through Deathly Hallows. It was a very emotional experience for me, because I'd grown up with those books, I was so attached to the whole world and all the characters, and now it was finally over. I think I started tearing up at the dedication, and then kind of with moments throughout the book. I remember the scene where George loses his ear giving me trouble, and then the final parts were one big emotional turmoil. Especially Fred dying, and the resurrection stone scene where James, Lily, Sirius and Remus are all together omg D:
To be fair though, I read it well into the night so I was very tired most of the time.

Day 24: Any particular scene you wished would have been put in the movie but it wasn’t?

omg, how many times? I THINK WE HAVE GONE OVER THIS. There are lots of scenes that weren't in the movies and I like, and scenes that were there but were different from what I imagined. The first one that comes to mind is Snape's Worst Memory, because it's one of my favourite parts of the books and while it was in the movie, it was terrible and missed the important stuff.

Day 25: Nineteen years later. Are you happy how it turned out, or do you wish something was different, ie Neville married Luna?

Actually, I was kind of rooting for Luna/Dean. :)

I love the epilogue, don't even. Okay, so Albus Severus is the worst name for a child ever, and it was a bit too obviously LOOK EVERYONE IS HAPPILY MARRIED WITH CHILDREN THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS EVER. But I don't think there's another way of ending the Harry Potter series that I would have been this happy about. If it had just ended the chapter before, I would have missed something. I do want to know what happened later, so I was exactly what I wanted.

Also, Draco Malfoy's receding hairline and the following fan rage was hilarious :D

I. Day 20: If you had to meet one member of the cast, who would it be?

I don't care that much about the movies and the main cast members. But there are several people that I love who just happen to be in a Harry Potter film.

If I had to pick one? I would say Helena Bonham Carter, but I fangirl her so hard that I would be unable to speak to her and probably make a fool of myself. So I'm going with Emma Thompson.

She just seems like a very down-to-earth, funny and lovely person, and I think I'd feel much more comfortable talking to her. I first saw her in Love Actually I think, and I thought she was the best part of the film (still do). And ever since seeing her appearance on QI (where she couldn't remember what oscars she had gotten :P) I love her even more.

I suppose technically I could also choose David Tennant? :) But that's like HBC's issue multiplied by 10 so no.

Day 21: Out of all the characters that died, if you could bring one back, who would it be?

You all think I'm going to say Sirius, but YOU'RE WRONG.

Fred. Fred every time. Out of all the people that died throughout the books (and there were several I cried over), Fred is the only one I really have trouble accepting is dead. I actually tend to pretend he isn't gone at all most of the time. They didn't check properly and an hour later he just got up and was just fine!

I think it is the most heartbreaking thing that could have happened, breaking up the Fred&George duo. More heartbreaking than both of Teddy's parents even. And I just noticed on my reread how cruel that scene at the beginning is where George loses his ear, and how upset Fred gets omg D:
So yeah. NOTHING HAPPENED LALALA is mainly my way of coping.

Day 22: Harry Potter or Twilight?

There are not enough WTF gifs IN THE WORLD. On a Harry Potter meme? I mean come ON.

II. I saw Inception yesterday. Not quite as good as I had expected/hoped, but I liked it.

III. Going to Ghent tomorrow which means getting up earlier than I have in WEEKS. I am getting too used to sleeping in XD. But it'll be worth it, hopefully.

Day 18: Least favorite book?

My list (from favourite to least) would be something like this:

1. Prisoner of Azkaban

2. Order of the Phoenix

3. Goblet of Fire
Sorcerer's Stone
Deathly Hallows

4. Half-Blood Prince
Chamber of Secrets

Which is to say: I know the order of 1-4 but all the ones under 4 and 3 tend to change around.

I've always found the Dutch version of the covers prettier than the original :)

I don't like CoS very much because I think it's the weakest of the lot. I do like the Tom Riddle stuff, and in retrospect I like the setting up of the diary, but in general the plot bores me and isn't that strong. I tend to really love JKR's finals, but the stand-off in the chamber is not very good, I think. So yeah, I still love the book of course, but just not that much.
And while I do like lots of things about HBP (like Ron/Hermione, Slughorn, Tom Riddle backstory), it has always felt like a filler to me, just setting up DH. When I think of the other books, I have a very clear image of them - the general feel of the book, a main plotline or mystery. And I just don't have that with HBP, it doesn't have that strong of an indiidual 'identity', if that makes sense.

Day 19 ~~: Do you prefer the books or films?~~ What did I think about DH upon rereading it? ;)

I think we've been through this so I'm changing the question. I finished my DH reread so I want to talk about it!

I. I've been pretty bad at commenting lately, sorry. I've not been on Lj much, so I tend to scroll through my flist and only comment on the big posts with lots of pictures :S I'll try to improve that ;)

II. MERLIN :D Omg, how adorable is this cast :o And I think watching the trailer is the first time I've actually been genuinely excited about season three. It looks like it might be really good:D

III. I've seen A Very Potter Sequel and it is great, if a little too long. So if you haven't yet, you really should go and watch it! (unless you haven't seen the first one yet, in which case WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, go to youtube and watch right now ;) ).

IV. Seen Sherlock. And it has led me to a startling revelation:
I love Steven Moffat's writing. I don't love Steven Moffat as a person, and in the context of Doctor Who his episodes aren't always my favourites (especially in S5), but out of this context where saying I like Moffat feels like saying I hate RTD (which I could never say because I love RTD), I love it. He is very very good. The way he writes dialogue and humour is amazing, and probably the best I know. I loved every minute of Sherlock; the actors were great, it was funny and witty, it didn't insult our intelligence. It managed to keep the feel of the original even while being set in the modern day. I am ridiculously excited about the next episodes and so sad there are only three.
So there it is. I am officially a big fan of Steven Moffat's writing. I'm really not sure where I fit in DW fandom now :P

Well, Remus Lupin of course. His classes are awesome and so is he. And McGonagall is pretty awesome as well:D

Day 17: Are you excited about The Deathly Hallows movie or scared it won’t do the book justice?

Well, I know it won't do the book justice for me. But this is the first time I'm actually kind of excited about the movie. I've still not seen HBP but I really so want to, and the trailer for DH looks good.

Day 13: Least favorite movie?

We've been over this. Prisoner of Azkaban, though I really didn't like Goblet of Fire either. But I am so attached to PoA (the book) that every thing they changed hurt. It was pretty, though - compared to the first two, PoA was a lot more epic.

Day 14: Team Voldemort or Team Harry?

What kind of a question is that? In addition to the KILLING PEOPLE and DESTROYING THE WORLD, Voldemort doesn't have a proper personality and is much less interesting as a character than Harry.

Day 15: Who would be your best friends at Hogwarts? (three only)

Hm. If I was there about twenty years earlier, I think I'd get along great with Remus Lupin and Lily Evans as I imagine her. Present generation, I think Hermione. And I like to think I'd be nice to Luna. (That's four, ooh I'm such a ~rebel) XD

I'm thinking about watching Sherlock Holmes tonight on the BBC - I've seen the trailer and it doesn't look THAT great to me, but I do trust Moffat with this. So I'll give it a try :D

Day 10: Horcruxes or Hallows?

Horcruxes. Honestly, the whole of DH is such a blank for me that I don't properly remember whar Hallows are. I'm reading the book now, and I can't believe how much of it I've just forgotten. I stayed up 'till after midnight reading, just like last time, because even though I know how it ends it still SO EXCITING OMG.

Day 11: What character would you say you are most like?

Hm. I don't fully identify with any character, really. I mean, I love Hermione but I'm not like her - I'm much too lazy :P. I'm possibly more like Ron :P

Remus/Sirius. As a 10-year-old reading the books, I never thought these two guys were secretly in a relationship. And I still don't think there is any evidence at all in the novels to think they were, or that it ever even crossed JKR's mind. (Though there isn't anything contradicting it either - I could write an essay on this but I won't XD).
But one day, when I had read all seven books and had discovered the online world of fandom, I had a craving to start reading Harry Potter fanfiction. I was always intrigued most by the previous generation, and Remus and Sirius were always my favourite characters, so it wasn't really a stretch.

And then I fell in love. XD Idk, it's hard to explain why I love them so in a few lines. There is so much possibility there for all kinds of stories at different points in their lives, and I think letting them be in love adds to the depth of their canon story. And there was just so much talent in this fandom :O. Though I greatly love my other ships, none of them can make me feel like this one - happy and heartbroken at the same time. I'm secretly a masochist, because in this pairing there is ALWAYS angst. Even when a fic is set in one of the rare happy periods, I am still capable of bursting into tears because of their future.

As far as canon HP ships go, I don't mind any of them except for Remus/Tonks (NOT because of my puppyshipping ways but because it was badly handled). I have a special love for Bill/Fleur and Lily/James, and the more I read the books the more attached I become to Ron/Hermione.

So anyone who is somewhat involved in Harry Potter fandom or has a few HP fans on his flist may have noticed there is somewhat of a renaissance going on. This is because of several things happening at once: Infinitus was last week, the DH trailer came out, WWoHP opened, and in JUST TWO DAYS A Very Potter Sequel is released on youtube.

I'm going to start rereading DH tonight.

If you are feeling nostalgic, I recommend going to Mark reads Harry Potter . This is the blog of a 26-year-old guy who has recently read Twilight one chapter at a time and made mocking blogposts about it. He then decided to do the same for HP.It's just wonderful to read how he falls in love with the world and the characters, and how instead of mocking and satire it is mainly flailing and excitement.
Reading this is the closest we can come to experiencing the thrill of that first read, being awed by the twists and mysteries. Especially his reaction to the final chapters of book 1 & 3 are great. (He's just started on GoF)

I may have burs in to tears reading his conclusion on the First book. (I was tired okay. And feeling very nostalgic).

Day 7: Favorite female character and why?

This is hard. I love lots of women, like Fleur (she's smart and brave and totally puts Molly in her place, okay), OoTP!Tonks (but not the later version), Ginny (haters to the left!).

But I guess I have to go with the traditional answer: Hermione Granger. I I like that she is smart and proud of it, that even when everyone mocks her, she still shows what she knows, I like that she is often the voice of reason when Harry is being stupid. I like that she actually falls for the stupid idiot who doesn't realise she's a girl until he's fourteen instead of for someone who would be the 'smart' choice.. I don't think I have to really explain Hermione to anyone who's read the books, though. :)

Day 8: What do you think would be your favorite lesson?

Charms, I think. Or possibly Transfiguration. Because having a wand and doing magic is really what it's all about.

Day 9: Least favorite male character?

Draco Malfoy. I don't exactly hate him, but he was an annoying sod for the first 5 books, and though he got some development in 6 & 7, it wasn't enough.
In general, I don't mind him that much, but I am mainly annoyed by the enourmous worship the character somehow gets in fandom. If you have to change his personality completely for him to fit your fic, there is something wrong, okay.

* I'm up to episode 3x07 on Buffy. I'm definitely going to keep watching and enjoying, but I have to say that I'm... underwhelmed. ( this was getting too long )

Day 4: Least favorite female character and why?

Molly Weasley. She just really annoys me. She wants to control everyone and doesn't try to understand what other people are going through. Everything is supposed to be redeemed because she killed Bella at the end, Well, sorry, but that didn't work. I don't like how she treats Sirius and Fleur and basically everyone else.

Day 5: Favorite male character and why?

MR SIRIUS 'PADFOOT' BLACK, people. Obviously :D From everything that was explained in the Shrieking Shack scene onwards, I was so intrigued by his story. And then in OoTP he was even more of a BAMF and I just really really love him. From the flying motorbike to the crazy family, the marauder funtimes and the epic bromance with James, the war and the madness in Azkaban, escaping and having to live in Grimmauld Place. And I may be slightly invested in his friendship with Remus. Slightly.

OoTP broke my heart, as you can imagine. I convinced myself he would come back, because what would have been the point of 'death by drapery' otherwise? Apparently, there was no real point. D:

Day 6: What House would you want to be in?

Ravenclaw. Slytherin is too evil, and Gryffindors are too stupidly 'brave'. And what the hell is a Huffelpuff, right? No, I think Ravenclaws are awesome because they are just as smart or even more so than Gryffindors, but they don't feel the need to try and get killed every other day.

* I don't know if anyone is interested, but whatever I need to squee about this. Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami is one of my favourite books, and they are turning it into a film. I'm always a bit wary when this happens, but the stills that have been released look gorgeous. I made the icon I'm using out of the prettiest one :D

Day Three: Did any of the film adaptions make you angry because they ignored important parts of the book?

I try to repress what I remember from the movies :P But because I'm such a marauder-era fangirl, the way those things are represented bother me the most. Like how they dealt with Snape's Worst Memory - way too short, and without Lily intervening, which was sort of the whole point of the scene.
And I haven't seen HBP yet, but apparently Harry isn't frozen at the end and just stands there. Which makes zero sense...

I haven't talked about the new Leverage series yet, but this last episode! ( spoilers.ish. )

Day Two: Your Favourite movie

So I have a bit of a thing with the movies. I really don't like them, especially the first ones, and I refuse to watch them in the movie theatre. When they're on tv I do watch, but I hated the first four. But then I saw OoTP and I actually kind of liked it. Probably because I'm not as defensive of the books from then on... Anyway, I really want to see HBP and the trailer for DH1 looks amazing.

I just...have this fear that I watching the movies will make me picture the books differently and I really love how I've pictured the books :P Most of the actors don't look/act at all like I imagine the characters (David Thewlis, I'm looking at YOU). But then, some are Helena Bonham Carter who looks better than my head-Bella.

I've finally given in and have now got a Paid Account. MORE ICONS YEAH :D I'm going to look for a good Buffy icon now, and try t do that while remaining unspoiled :/ hm.

Day 1: Your favorite book.

Prisoner of Azkaban. Because it's the book that's really all about characters and backstory. Because it introduces the whole Marauder-era shenanigans to be intrigued by. Because it makes you realise there was a war 12 years ago and everyone around was affected by that. Because it gave us Sirius Black who instantly (well, as soon as we knew the truth XD) became my favourite AND Remus Lupin.

I've just seen "Passion" in my BtVS watch (yes, I am totally powering through like a maniac XD). Thoughts:
- I think that was my favourite episode so far. Totally tragic but awesome.
- I like Angelus way more than Angel. But I still wouldn't really care if he got killed (though the fact that he gets a spin-off is sort of telling me he won't)
- Spike and Dru are cool. They can stay and be their crazy Cockney selves.
- CORDELIA! I loved her whole storyline in "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered".
- Oz and Willow are basically the cutest thing ever.

* I started watching Buffy! I'm at the first half of season 2 now. Thoughts so far:

- I like almost everyone. Especially Willow. And Giles. But Xander, Buffy and Cordelia as well.
- The only character I don't like is Angel. I do like the whole storyline (and maybe I'm trying not to get too attached because I've been spoiled for what happens later on this season), but he doesn't seem to do anything but brood. ALL THE TIME. He shows up, looks worried, warns Buffy evil is coming and sometimes they make out. Urgh, smile already!
- I haven't seen that much of Spike yet, but so far I love him. A lot.
- While I love the characters, dialogue, jokes and some plots, there are some really terrible episodes as well. And it gets a bit repetitive, but maybe that's because I'm watching them all at once.

So I can't help but compare to Firefly, and the fact that I've seen more episodes of Buffy than there ever were of Firefly. And if this was it, I'd be underwhelmed. I trust it will get better and I'll get more attached? But I'm really not at the OMG greatest show ~ever point yet.

* Real life goings-on: HEAT. HOT. DYING. Also had an interview to get an internship for next year, and it went really well, so as soon as the papers are signed I have got myself the "job". It's in cultural centre and I'll be making the handouts, sitting in on meetings with people from the industry and it'll be great.

* FREEDOM :DDD

* I'm going to the coast for a week. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon, and I'm back next Friday. I won't have any internet access for a week - this will be hard... I'm taking a shitload of books, my laptop and some dvds though.
I don't know if I get BBC1 there, so I MAY MISS THE FINALE OMG. And even if I manage to see it, there won't be anyone to squee with. D:

* I'm FINALLY finishing this meme. Doing it under a cut, because it's four days at once.

I haven't watched the new Leverage eps yet, but I think I'll download them and take them on my laptop.
